The G Spot 001

Welcome to The G Spot – Number ONE!!!

This is a micropodshow – or PodSpot – that is intended to be injected into other peoples’ pod shows to showcase all that is great about Blues music.

Hi – my name is Jeremy Gugenheim and I will be your host on The G Spot. I hope to play you some music you like, and hopefully some you haven’t heard before but you do want to hear again. If you do then go to the artist’s own web page and fill your boots – that is how they make their living after all.

Five Miles – The Verdict.
The lyric was written by me and the music by the guitar player and vocalist Daniel Wherret. Written in 2005 it appeared on our CD “Guilty”. The song is not a twelve bar, though it was written with every aspect of blues music fully plugged in. It is supposed to convey the confusion suffered after the breakdown of a relationship, not quite knowing if you want to be near or far. Sadly The Verdict no longer have a website, but you can contact me directly if you wish.

The Blues Rolls On – Elvin Bishop
Elvin Bishop has been playing since the mid fifties and his talent lights up the room for me. He has played with many  blues powerhouses, starting out with Paul Butterfield. There is some gorgeous harp playing here. Find him at www.elvinbishopmusic.com – there are 27 albums to choose from!!!

From St Denis – Trafic de Blues
A french band, quite large. Their website has gone but they have a good page on Jamendo at www.jamendo.com/en/artist/trafic.de.blues sadly all in french (sadly only if you can’t read french. If you can read french then it’s not sadly at all). Their music is lively and great to dance to. There are tracks that are a bit jazzy, a lot funky, but all with a foot in the blues.

Blues ain’t pretty – Janiva Magness
All the music I play is podsafe, except the music that isn’t. Janiva Magness is not podsafe so I can only put up short clips for review purposes. She is brilliant. Run – do not walk – to her website at www.janivamagness.com and buy everything. You will not be disappointed. Her story makes for pretty hard reading but she has been able to use her experience as a vehicle for her magnificent voice.

That’s it for this first edition. I hope you have heard something you like. Let me know if you did, or even if you didn’t – I can take it (I hope). I must thank Peter Clitheroe (www.suffolkandcool.com) and Pete Cogle (www.petecogle.com) for beating down every excuse I could come up with for not getting round to doing this. I also thank my friend Daniel Wherrett (www.danielwherrett.com) for providing some great guitar work on my backing music. I trust there are further collaborations on the way.

Enjoy and come back soon.

Merry Christmas!

Jeremy Gugenheim.
