Small Systems Engineering is a small Suffolk-based company designing and implementing custom software and hardware on IBM PCs (or compatibles) for Windows® and DOS. We also design and program embedded systems for a range of microprocessor and microcontroller families.

Since Small Systems Engineering was established over twelve years ago, we have written software for major financial institutions (such as the International Stock Exchange, London), developed and implemented test and integration programs for a large British telecommunications company and undertaken large and small projects for local businesses of all sizes. Experience ranges from MIDI programming to financial services to building security systems. Hardware designed includes MIDI radio telemetry for theatre systems, graphical ink dosing/mixing systems for the printing industry and MIDI generating velocity sensitive keyboards for church organs.

A large part of our work has been repeat work for the same customers and renewed contracts - people won't give a company more work if they are unhappy with their previous solutions (or failures...). You're only as good as your last delivery!

Jeremy Gugenheim's user interface blog. The psychology of why we use anything the way that we do really interests me. There are many books on the subject, many learned texts and at last the UK seems to be waking up to the importance of the user interface. My blog is a very personal take on the subject. I hope you get something positive from it as it evolves, please comment on it however it grabs you - while it is my opinion, I'm very happy to modify it with new, better ideas. I have called it GUIblog because I really want people to think about Good User Interfaces, not just graphical ones - and I just thought that gooeyblog sounded better than ooeyblog. Enjoy it!

Jeremy Gugenheim talks about - and plays - blues music in his podcast - The G Spot.

SPAM:
Small Systems Engineering has never and will never send spam. The only possible involvement with spam would be if a client asked us to write a spam killer or filter. We abhor spam and regret the time wasted clearing out our mailboxes. We have aggressive filtering set on our mailboxes in an attempt to stem the flow.

The Small Systems Engineering master mailbox has recently been inundated with undeliverable mail returned notifications. This may be due to a spammer somewhere harvesting email addresses from an unprotected computer and faking Small Systems as the "From" address for their bulk mailler. The result of this is manyfold:

Apology:
I can only unreservedly apologise to all the innocent recipients - we have no control over this at all. I do, however, offer a word of advice: Please, please use a reputable antivirus system and spyware protector and regularly scan all your online computers.
