The following links are those found useful by Small Systems. They in no way indicate an indorsement of Small Systems by the companies linked to.

Hardware

Intel Suppliers of (quite expensive) microcontrollers (amongst other things that you may have heard of such as Pentium chips). The original designer of the 8051 family.
Zilog Suppliers of the Z80 and Z180 families of chips. Ahh... the Z80... Probably the finest chip in the world...
Atmel Suppliers of much improved and much cheaper versions of the 8051 microntroller family. FLASH based and fast they are really handy devices.
Microchip Suppliers of an extraordinarily wide and cheap range of microcontrollers called PICs. Historically the cheapness has been due to seriously annoying shortcommings in the architecture but this is no longer true in their larger devices.
Phillips Suppliers of much improved and cheaper versions of the 8051 microntroller family.

Software

Microsoft We can whinge, bleat and complain but honestly, their products are not that bad. Apart from a brief sojourn with the Watcom 10 compiler all Small Systems' DOS and Windows work has been undertaken using Microsoft compilers. All documentation is prepared using Office apart from a brief outing with Serif's Page Plus before it was spoiled.
HiTech An Australian purveyor of very good ANSI standard PIC C compilers. There is some excellent software coming out of Australia. And wine and music and yes, even coffee!
Addison Reveal, a brilliant utility for clearing up exactly what needs to be delivered with a new project. No more guessing about which version of which DLL, OCX, etc.
Stingray
RogueWave
Awesome MFC classes - with source. Perhaps a bit slow but I have only used their products on a massive grid with a lot of data. Very good online support.
Adobe We all use the Acrobat reader, don't we? This site was prepared using GoLive 4. I prefer it to MS FrontPage as it is faster and doesn't re-layout my HTML every time I change views. It is also a bit more intuitive. I'm told it's a lot more intuitive if you are used to using a Macintosh.
Gimpel PCLint - The oldest piece of software marketed without break for the PC apparently! Lint picks the obscure bugs out of source code and can be a real boon. It can also hide the wood for the trees amongst vast reams of output. Requires careful tuning.
NuMega BoundsChecker & SoftIce - wow! An industrial strength debugger. Not for the squeamish, but a must for any serious programming.
Global Majic Splendid ActiveX controls. Hmm - a contradiction in terms, but they are neat and they work really well. Small Systems has used the gauge. It is very flexible.
Helios TextPad, an excellent programmers editor that just keeps getting better.
Caligari TrueSpace 3D modelling with a somewhat eclectic user interface. It is very powerful and a lot cheaper than other software with similar functionality. We use it to create 3D images to spice up controls.

Suppliers (old and current)

Venus Internet A web site host - And a bunch of very splendid people, too. They supply all kinds of statistics, the host is fast and secure. They also do some fancy hosting with databases etc. If you need a web host, call Robin or Oliver at Venus.
Skybury Real Australian coffee. Look, coffee is important, OK?
